Our History


1973 - Janus Associates, Inc., is founded as the first state certified alternative substance abuse treatment program using art therapy, music therapy and meditation in an intensive outpatient group therapy modality.

 

1983 - Janus focuses on the emerging Employee Assistance Program (EAP) movement by providing consulting services to companies with internal programs.  Janus also provides sub-contracted counseling, training and crisis management services on behalf of national EAP providers requiring support in the Mid-Atlantic.

 

1997 - Janus incorporates American Substance Abuse Professionals (ASAP) as a separate company dedicated to evaluation, referral, testing and case engagement services in compliance with newly enacted Department of Transportation regulations for safety sensitive employees.

 

1999 – 27 year-old employee Dawn Motovidlak purchases Janus Associates with a strategy of re-positioning the company as a direct provider of comprehensive EAP and Behavioral Risk Management services for mid-to-large sized groups.

 

2001- Janus Associates acquires Business Health Services, a highly-regarded and national EAP. Business Health Services (BHS) becomes the national trade name of Janus Associates, Inc.

 

2004 – BHS establishes an Organizational Development & Corporate Training division to address increasing demands for assistance in addressing barriers to maintaining mission focus, organizational effectiveness and company profitability.

 

2005 – BHS begins providing health risk assessments, on-site biometric screenings, wellness coaching and on-site wellness activities to help control escalating healthcare costs and help develop healthier employees and workplace environments.

 

2006 - Acquires PRIME, Inc., Maryland’s oldest stand-alone Employee Assistance Program. 

 

2008 - BHS introduces a comprehensive web-based wellness platform to enable companies to register, track, monitor and reward employees for participation and completion of a range of health and wellness activities. 

 

2010 - Acquires Acadiana EAP of Lafayette, LA and establishes the BHS-South operations center to better serve customers in the Southern US.
